= Thank you for the few HT and HS who went to the catechist class by cha Tan. He gave a great lesson on classroom management, the calling as a catechist teacher as well as other teachers sharing their experiences with each other.
~ excerpt from The Rhythm of Life: Living Every Day with Passion & Purpose by Matthew Kelly”Emotional Needs, part 1
In the emotional realm, it can be much more difficult to pinpoint our legitimate needs, because they are not necessary for our immediate survival. It is not too common to read in the newspaper about someone dying of emotional starvation. Our emotional needs are in many ways subtler, but certainly no less important if we are to thrive.

Emotional starvation, while not life threatening, does have some symptoms. For some of us, emotional starvation can lead to radical mood swings, for others to general lethargy, for others yet, to anger, bitterness, and resentment. The heart suffers and the body cries out. Most of all, emotional starvation leads to distortions in our character and prevents us from becoming the-best-version-of-ourselves.

For most people, their legitimate emotional needs include spending time with family, friends, a spouse, a boyfriend or girlfriend, colleagues at work, and perhaps a spiritual director or mentor. Spending time with these people helps us to develop a sense of self, teaches us to participate in the fulfillment of other people’s needs, and reminds us of our deep connection with the human family.

One of our most dominant emotional needs is our need for acceptance. We all need to feel we belong. In the face of rejection, we may put on a brave face and pretend that we can survive without acceptance. And that is true; we can survive without the nurturing acceptance provides.

But we cannot thrive without it.

We all have a great need to feel accepted. It is one of the forces that drives human behavior. Our need to be accepted is powerful, and it is astounding what most people will do to gain some sort of acceptance or sense of belonging.

…

I have always been fascinated with how many different churches there are in America and the criteria people use to choose a church. For several years I have been asking people, and I am amazed how similar their responses are. Most of them say something like “From the minute I walked in there five years ago, I just felt so welcome” or “I just feel like I belong there.”

We have a great need to be accepted. We need to belong.

With this in mind, it is easy to understand why so many people join gangs and cults. From time to time, you may hear a story about a gang or a cult, and those of us who live in a relatively secluded world may wonder why anyone would get involved in these things. Simple. Just like you and me, people who join gangs and cults have a legitimate need for acceptance and a sense of belonging. They just don’t have the options you and I have.
…

Our needs are powerful. In many cases, if they are not fulfilled in healthy ways, they will seek their own satisfaction in self-destructive ways.”

http://www.tomathienga.org/huynhtruong/

= A Special Thanks to all HT and HS who showed up to show support for the families at the funeral. It is one of the ways we “làm việc tông đồ” doing apostolic work.

= Quote from “Because God is Real”

8. So the meaning of life is . . . to be a saint? Exactly! But being a saint does not necessarily mean being someone unusual and famous, like Saint Francis of Assisi or Mother Teresa. It means simply loving God with your whole heart and loving your neighbor as you love yourself (Mt 19:19). This is every person’s destiny. Most of us have a long, long way to go to reach it. But God cares about every one of His children, even the ones who are the slowest to learn to walk down the road of love, the only road that leads to Heaven. God cares about the smallest steps we take on this road, the tiniest choices to love. He is our Father, after all; that’s why He is “easy to please and hard to satisfy”, as C. S. Lewis’ friend George MacDonald put it. God is pleased with the first little baby steps we take on this royal road of love, but He will not be satisfied until we are mature and whole and reach the end of the road. That’s one reason why the process of learning to love completely will be completed after death in Purgatory for most of us: because we’re not finished yet. Although Baptism and faith have made us “justified” (or “saved”, or “in a state of grace”), so that we can go to Heaven, we still need to do good works, the works of love, throughout our lives in order to grow into saints, in order to be “sanctified”. Meanwhile, life is a road to that end. Here is what life looks like from the perspective of that end, that destiny:

It is a serious thing to live in a world of possible gods and goddesses, to realize that the dullest person you meet may one day be something which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship; or else a horror and a corruption which you meet now only in a nightmare. All day long we are helping each other to one or the other of these two destinations. There are no ordinary people. You have never met a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations, these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we work with, play with, marry, snub, or exploit: immortal horrors or everlasting splendors (C. S. Lewis, “The Weight of Glory”). ”

Upcoming Events:

= A Special Thanks to anh Long and Khoi Quan Tri (Nhat, Kieu, My Thanh, Huy) for heading up the Field day on Saturday and Le Bon Mang on Sunday. Also thanks to Paul for organizing the second collections. All the Nganh Truong and Nganh Pho (Maria, Loan, Bao, PA, Richard, Khoa, anh Khoa) for making things flow smoothly. Thank you for other HT and HS helpers that have helped out including Ani, Annie, Lisa, Michael (Netloyd), Mart, Robinson, Peter Nguyen, Lieu, Nam, Peter Pham, Michael (flare). Sorry if I forget anyone else, those are the names I can remember.
= We (BTV) would also apologize to everyone for the last minute crunch making it difficult for you to prepare for the Field Day and Le Bon mang. Next year, we will prepare better as well as try to spacing things out instead of having so many events crammed into September.
= Our Treasurer (Michael) reported that this past weekend, we collect $6,394 to our fund.
= Quote from the book “Because God is Real“”7. How can God fill our hearts? When we say our destiny is union with God, what does that mean? How can we be united with God? It means two things: to be like God more and more in this world, and to be with God forever in Heaven. To be like God means above all to love, because “God is love” (1 Jn 4:8). That’s why loving makes us more deeply happy than anything else ever does and why refusing to love, being selfish, makes us deeply unhappy and lonely. To be with God means what the saints call “spiritual marriage”: to be in a close, personal, intimate love-relationship with God; to know Him even better than human friends or lovers can ever know each other. That is how Jesus defines the life of Heaven: “This is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God” (Jn 17:3). Not just to know of Him or to know about Him, but to know Him.”

= Thank you to Duy Vu, anh Long, and Cac Nganh Truong, Maria, Phuong Anh, Richard, and Anh Khoa for organizing the Huan Luyen Doi Truong Doi Pho this past Saturday. Also thank you to all HT who came out to help with the event as well. The kids loved it

= Quote from the book “Because God is Real”

” 4. Should we question our faith?

Yes! – if questioning is sincere and honest and motivated by your wanting to know the truth and not by your wanting to just play games or show off. Saint Paul says, “Test everything; hold fast to what is good” (1 Thess 5:21). How can you know what is good unless you first test it, unless you first question it? The more deeply and honestly you question, the more you will appreciate the answers you find. But if you don’t really like answers but only questions, then you are not really honest in asking questions. To ask a question is to say, “I want the answer!” Preferring questions to answers is like preferring hunger to food. As G. K. Chesterton said, an open mind is like an open mouth: it’s open so that it can chomp down on something solid.”

(Rev 15:4) “Who will not fear you, Lord, or glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All the nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

Doan Truong Blogging:

http://www.tomathienga.org/huynhtruong/

= Thank you all HT and HS who joined us for the meeting on Sunday. It was a great way to kick off the year. Keep up the high spirit.

= As a reminder to all HT and Helpers. Please do NOT drive anyone under 18 off of church property without parental permission. Especially NOT during class hours.

= When I came to the US in 1992, I attended CCD Class (Church School) at St. Andrews Catholic Church. Looking back on those years, I didn’t learn much about the Catholic Church. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any teacher that made much of an impact in my faith life. All I remember going to class once a week as to fill in the blanks in a workbook we had just to fill our time (busy work). Most of the time I didn’t understand much anyways so I would just copy from some other kids’ workbook to be done with. To me, God was up there and I’m down here. I do my thing and He does His thing, as long as I’m not bad, he’s not going to bother me.

One of the big reasons why my lack of faith education besides not having good teachers was not having good text books. My suspicions were confirmed when Dr. Peter Kreeft, one of our best Catholic Theologican and Boston College Professor, commented on how boring our Catechist text books are. They are dry and filled with knowledge, but lack in passion and practical examples. So when I went to his talk when he spoke at St. Peter Chanel, I asked him what is his suggestion for addressing the problem of dry and boring Catechist books. He said, read his book “Because God is Real” because he wrote it to address real life questions to our faith. I just finished reading the book and I think it’s a MUST READ for all Catechist teachers. I’ll send some sample text in the next few emails.

Be a SAINT and have a wonderful week.

Dear Fellow HT and HS,

Doan Truong Blogging:

http://www.tomathienga.org/huynhtruong/

Thank you all the HT and HS who came out for the Adoration to worship Jesus to kick off the year. A special thanks Ha Vu and all the Huynh Truong/Hiep Sy who contributed to make the potluck on Saturday a success.

Also thank you to all those who came out to help make our Church physically more beautiful and for those who helped Michael prepare for the Fall Festival coming up.

PRAYER.

It is the lifeline of our work for building the Church and building TNTT. Since Jesus in the Eucharist is the source of our strength, prayer is the way in which we tap into that strength to keep us going strong. Without prayer, we will be like a branch that has fallen off the tree. It may look green but sooner or later, it will dry up and die. Without prayer, all the knowledge we have and all the time we spend teaching is worthless. No lives are changed and everyone’s time is wasted. We are the ones who sow the seeds into the kids hearts, but without prayer to ask for the grace of God to water that seed, it becomes like dead summer grass facing a drought.

Therefore, I believe it is my job as a Doan Truong to pray for you each day. I pray that you become a Better-Version-Of-Yourself each day by growing in holiness. Once we have God as the center of our lives, everything else will fall into place. I also ask you to pray for me to be filled with the Holy Spirit so that I can do things that will help our Doan grow in holiness. It is also your responsibility to pray for those who are under your care. For Ban Chap Hanh (formerly known as BQT) to pray for our fellow HT. For Nganh Truong to pray for HT in your nganh, for those who teach class to pray for your students each and everyday. That way our chain of prayers unite us in God and everyone receives grace at all levels.

Prayers doesn’t have to be long and it doesn’t have to wait until night time for you to pray. Just whenever you remember another HT, ask God to bless them.

Upcoming Events:

1) Sunday August 22 is the FIRST DAY OF CLASS

- All 1st-7th grade students will gather in class and have regular class from 9am-10am (Giao Ly Portion)

5) Doan Toma Thien Anniversary (Le Bon Mang Doan):

- Sunday we will have new BCH sworn in.

6) Our First Praise & Worship: Sept 24

- Any other forms you want to see on the website, let Tan know (imazn44@gmail.com)

That is all for now. Have a blessed week filled with God’s peace.

Where there is no vision the people will perish (Proverbs 29:18)

Without a vision of where we are going, we wouldn’t not get anywhere. As we head into the new year, I challenge each one of us to think about what do we plan to accomplish this year. If we do the same things, we will get the same result, therefore if we want to improve and have different results, we have to do things differently.

What will you change about yourself this year? What will you change about your way of teaching this year? What will you change about how you preparing for lessons to help delivery God’s message better?

The way I normally do it is by writing down a list of things I would like to see happen this year. I call this my dreams list. It’s the list of things that help inspire me to work at it this year to make a difference. Then I would pick one thing on the dreams list to work on. That way, I can focus on improving a little bit each day.

Hello Everyone,

Doan Truong Rambling:

It seems like our summer just flew past us. Only less than 3 more weeks before we get to go back and see our students and teach them about Jesus again. I hope everyone is having a wonderful last summer vacation before the school year begins

Ban Chap Hanh (BCH what is formally known as BQT) met this past weekend to lay out the vision for our TNTT. I am excited about what are headed for the next year. We laid out our dreams of our Doan and we will pursue them with our focus. There are also many issues that we still haven’t had a chance to touch on, like what is our role as TNTT in our Church. Is evangelizing and teaching Catechism part of our core mission or some HT just happen to be catechist teachers as well?

Upcoming Events:

1) HT Adoration (WEAR UNIFORM) moved to August 14, after which we will have potluck at Duy Vu’s house:

– Since so many people are taking vacations this weekend, I’ve decided to move Adoration back 1 week.

– After Adoration, we will head over to Duy Vu’s house for potluck, please email Ha Vu (vuhanguyen333@yahoo.com) to let him know if you are coming and what you will bring to the Potluck.

2) Sunday 8: Student Sign up from 9:00am-1:00pm

– We still need your help with the sign up and selling uniforms.

- please email chi Huong (huong_giang@bellsouth.net) for helping sign up and email Michael (michaelpham84@gmail.com) for helping selling uniforms.

3) Reminder: Sunday August 22 is the FIRST DAY OF CLASS (it’s moved from August 15 because Cha won’t be there on August 15)

4) Finalizing the Teachers List:

– I am still working on making some changes to the list and so I am not able to send it out to everyone yet.

4) Fall Festival on Sept. 4-5 is only a month away. We will be hearing from Michael soon as to preparation for the games.

Thank you for your service. Please continue to pray for our Doan to embrace God’s mission to evangelize.
Your Servant in Christ,
